"Maeve worked with our child for close to a year, as he was having a bit of trouble with reading and handwriting. She always made him feel comfortable, made the sessions fun for him, and helped him grow into the confident reader and writer that he is today! I highly recommend Maeve, and have also recommended her to close friends. I would definitely call her again if our child needed some more tutoring!"
"Sam is making such great progress and we can clearly see his confidence building. You've worked wonders Maeve and it's wonderful to see!" - JD
"Jack really is an amazing tutor thank you so much for putting us in touch with him."
"Bella is amazing, [my son] is doing really well at school thanks to Bella's help."
"Our son has been having 1-2-1 sessions with Maeve since October 2021. She understood immediately his needs and adapted the teaching to our son's approach. This was done in a caring yet purposeful manner. He has developed an interest in learning and it has definitely supported him in becoming more self-confident and able to share with others, which he was very reluctant to do. We certainly recommend Maeve as a tutor. She has a very friendly manner and a quiet command that allows for a relaxed yet good working environment". - Rosa
"Maeve has been absolutely fantastic for our daughter. She took time to read and understand a lot of background information, immediately understood our daughter's challenges and quickly built a strong rapport so sessions were keenly anticipated and, importantly, enjoyed. I appreciate the honest and detailed feedback at the end of each session, which demonstrates a deep insight that is both reassuring and very useful. I feel very grateful to have her in our support system for our daughter and would highly recommend More Than Words Tuition to other SEND parents." - Jess Rad
"I have only 1 regret about Maeve… I wish we’d met her a long time before we did.
She was a breath of fresh air; learning how my son ticked before making any suggestions about learning was incredibly important. After just her short first visit to introduce herself, my son told me, quite out of the blue, as she left "I like her, she’s good" Good? She was excellent! My son looked forward to her visits each week, and it worked well for the first time in almost a decade. A one-to-one at his speed with subjects of interest were the perfect ingredients! Maeve also brought humour, which was a fabulous treat as my boy does like a joke! Her patience to listen and gain his trust was a joy to watch. Even going out to the park to feed the pigeons or a stroll on the seafront helped with his socialising skills; and simply getting out of the house worked wonders when she wanted to push him a little. In a very short time he started using a pen again after years of refusing. Albeit to draw with, but it did lead to him writing down his maths and wanting to learn again. Maeve had managed to open up his mind, and to show him she was there to help and support him but most importantly to listen to him, rather than telling him, whereas before he’d often been shouted at. If he couldn’t do something, she’d find another way for him to be able to achieve whatever it was he was trying to do. She promoted his abilities and praised him constantly. She also challenged him, where she knew she could, and often asked him to show her how he had learnt to play a tune on his guitar so quickly. More positive signs. I honestly have to say she was the beginning of the turning point for my boy's future. He was in such a horrible, dark and lonely place. If it hadn’t been for Maeve and her style of teaching, he would never have been able to accept that there are some amazing teachers out there, and Maeve is most definitely one of them! We can't thank her enough for her help, support and friendship." -DN
Maeve has been working with our son for over 2 years now. He was really struggling with phonics at school and the knock on effect of that was a fear of reading and writing. We knew that we needed external help and lucky for us that we found Maeve. She quickly implemented a whole new approach to reading, got his school onboard and slowly started to build his confidence. Back in 2020, H was reluctant to write even one short word. What a transformation we have seen over these past months! His reading is now excellent and Maeve is focusing mainly on his written English. Maeve is flexible, often changing his session according to how he is feeling that day. Above all she is kind and caring and H has built up a lovely relationship with her. She just seems to get him and what makes him tick. - EC
"Maeve has worked with several students I have known. These students have been some of the hardest to reach ASC students in school.
She has shown a great depth of patience as she tried to enable these students to reengage with their learning. She uses a variety of methods, often thinking outside the box, to promote the student’s confidence in attempting to do something they fear. "
